Bio

South Louisiana native John Schroder is a veteran, small business owner, and entrepreneur currently serving his first term as a State Representative in the Louisiana Legislature. He was elected in 2007 to represent District 77, which consists of portions of Tangipahoa and St. Tammany Parishes.

Representative Schroder is a member of three House Committees including Education, Civil Law and Procedure, and Homeland Security. He is also a member of the Joint Committee on Homeland Security and the Special Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs.

Known for his focus on wasteful government spending, John has emerged as a vocal spokesperson for the average taxpayer – demanding more accountability in state government. He was instrumental in passing comprehensive earmark reform legislation during his first two years in the legislature.

John is a graduate of East Jefferson High School and Southeastern Louisiana University where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. For five years he served as a Special Agent with the United States Army Criminal Investigations Division based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. For the past 18 years he as owned and operated several family retail and service oriented businesses in Southeast Louisiana.

John is Past-President of the Hospice Foundation of the South and has co-chaired its annual “Crawfish Cook-off Festival” for many years. He also volunteers many hours for other local, state, and national causes including the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce, the Louisiana Council for Economic Education, and the National Homebuilders Association.

John and his wife of 25 years, Ellie, are the parents of two children – Brittany, an LSU Law School student; and, John Michael, a student at Southeastern Louisiana University.
