BioJunelle Cavero Harnal (she/her) grew up in a trailer and was raised by working class, immigrant parents. Junelle was vigorously encouraged to work hard, think big, and pursue education to open more doors in America. Junelle and her sister watched their mother personify these values as she put herself through dental board exams late in her career.
A small business owner herself, Junelle helps other small businesses review their strategic plans, acquire grants and provide sound marketing strategies. This venture truly stemmed from watching her mother build a dental practice, which solely served Medi-Cal and Medicare patients.
Fighting discrimination and advocating for a better world also started at home. Junelle began volunteering in fourth grade with her mom at a food kitchen organized by their church. Junelle's father is a Vietnam veteran and proud (now retired) U.S. Postal letter carrier. Despite his patriotism and her mother's achievements, she witnessed discrimination in her neighborhoods, at school, and among her peers.
In addition to her work at the International War Crimes Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Hague, Junelle served on the board of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations, advocating for WWII veterans' equity in Washington DC, and proudly working on several presidential campaigns, as well as the Office of Enterprise and Development at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
Junelle received her Bachelors of Arts from New York University and her Masters in Public Administration from American University. Junelle founded the Arizona Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Democratic Caucus, was the first minority Executive Director for EMERGE Arizona, and managed the Arizona Asian Chamber of Commerce's first report demonstrating the economic power of Asian American consumers and businesses in Arizona, called ABACUS.
Today, Junelle also helps the largest multicultural digital media company authentically reach U.S. Hispanic/Latino, Black and Asian American audiences nationwide. In keeping with her lifelong advocacy for minorities, she continues her public affairs experience at the local, state and federal levels.
Junelle's passion is fighting for equity, equal opportunity, and economic security - with a particular focus on policies affecting minorities, women, and children. She plans to use her experience to fight for and pass bills defending the rights and strengthening the livelihood of working families in Arizona.
Junelle and her husband, Vishal, proudly reside in the South Mountain area with their two daughters, Revah and Vera, and their furry family, Dulce and Sugar.
