BioWilliam Ligon, was first elected to office in November 2010, will begin his second term in the Georgia Senate in January 2013. He serves as Chairman of the Senate State and Local Governmental Affairs Committee and as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. He also serves as a member of the Judiciary, Ethics, and Health and Human Services committees. He is a member of the Jekyll Island Legislative Oversight Committee.In his freshman term, Sen. Ligon served as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. In addition he served as a member of the following committees- Health and Hu-man Services, Judiciary, Public Safety, Ethics, and Regulat-ed Industries and Utilities. Formerly, Senator Ligon served as the Municipal Court Judge for the City of Brunswick for 16 years. He has prac-ticed law for 27 years and managed his own law firm since 1993. He is the Senior Partner of Ligon, Lindberg, and La-nier, P.C., with offices in Brunswick and St. Simons Island. A graduate of Glynn Academy, Senator Ligon earned his Bachelor’s degree at Valdosta State College and his law de-gree from Mercer University’s School of Law. He graduated from both with academic honors. His political calling began on the local level when he first chaired the Glynn County Young Republicans. In Washington, D.C., Sen. Ligon worked as an intern with Senator Mack Mattingly in the United States Senate.
