She currently serves as Secretary of the Special Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Appropriations, State Institutions and Property, Urban Affairs and Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committees.

Senator Davenport is a member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, Georgia Legislative Womenis Caucus, Working Families Agenda Caucus, WILL/Women Legislatorsi Lobby, National Black Caucus of State Legislators, National Organization of Black Elected Legislators, and served as the Chairwoman of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation for 2013-2014 term.

She is a graduate of Spelman College, America's oldest historically black college for women, a life member of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College, recipient of the 2008 Merit Award by the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College, the 2002 Spelman College Board of Trustees Community Service Award, and the Atlanta Chapteris 2001 Outstanding Alumna Award.

Senator Davenport has been a life-long advocate of education. In September 1997, she established the Henry and Clara Dixon Education Fund in honor of her maternal grandparents. The fund helps students purchase books while attending college. She also founded COLLEGE BOUND, a residential summer program that exposes high school students to the college experience and encourages their pursuit of higher education.

She was a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Charlotte, NC, pledged to President Barack Obama, a delegate in the 2008 DNC in Denver, CO, pledged to Senator Barack Obama, a delegate to the 2004 DNC in Boston, MA, pledged to Senator John Kerry, and the 1988 DNC in Atlanta pledged to the Rev. Jesse L.

She has conducted workshops on home ownership for she believes in idemocracy in housingi and that every citizen deserves to experience the American dream of home ownership. Senator Davenport has conducted Home Foreclosure seminars and worked with HUD certified counSenator Gail Davenport Senate District 44 selors to assist homeowners in foreclosure prevention.

She is a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church, Jonesboro, Georgia, where she serves as a communion stewardess, member of the United Methodist Women, Hostess Committee, and Building Committee. She has served as a member of the Church Development Committee, Nominating Committee of Griffin District and Vice President of the United Methodist Women, Griffin District.

She is the daughter of Mrs. Helen Dixon Davenport and the late Nathaniel Davenport and the sister of Carolyn Davenport.
