Edgar Gonzalez Jr. is a lifelong resident of Little Village, Chicago and the current State Representative of the 21st District. Attending CPS schools from K-12, Edgar is the first in his family to graduate from college. He graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in Government and a minor in Economics. While at Harvard, Edgar knew he wanted to return to Chicago and serve his community, and began working as a constituency services liaison for Congressman Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, specializing in casework and outreach ranging from immigration and social security to veterans, criminal justice, and education.

A son of working-class immigrants from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico-a father who is currently an IUOE Local 399 union member and a mother who was formerly an SEIU Local 73 union member-Edgar represents the demographics of the 21st District. Edgar is a parishioner of Our Lady of Tepeyac Parish. He attended John Spry Community School, Maria Saucedo Scholastic Academy, and Whitney M Young Magnet High School. His experiences growing up on the Southwest Side of Chicago, two blocks from school and two blocks from Cook County Jail, have informed his commitment to inspiring young people in their pursuit of an education and fighting for working-class families like his.

While at Harvard, Edgar remained active in his community. He tutored recent immigrant arrivals in English and subject tutoring at Chelsea High School and Malden High School. He launched a tutoring and mentoring program for at-risk Latinx youth in the Boston area with Roxbury nonprofit Sociedad Latina. On his breaks from school, he interned with Enlace Chicago his freshman summer, the MacArthur Foundation his sophomore summer, and with 22nd Ward Democratic Committeeman Michael D. Rodriguez his junior summer.

Edgar is a vice president of the 22nd Ward Independent Political Organization and is a current member of the Enlace Chicago Associate Board.

In January 2020, Edgar was sworn in as the State Representative of the 21st District. At the time of his inauguration, Edgar Gonzalez Jr. was the youngest State Representative in Illinois at 23 years of age. He was the youngest Latinx State Representative and the youngest Democratic State Representative to be inaugurated in Illinois' history.
