Bio

Kevin Cotter was elected to the office of State Representative in November 2010 to represent the citizens of the 99th House district. The 99th district encompasses all of Isabella County, as well as ten townships in Midland County.

Representative Kevin Cotter brings a broad array of experience to the House of Representatives, most recently serving as a partner at the Kerr Law Firm, PLLC in downtown Mt. Pleasant. Prior to that, Cotter worked in the transportation industry, working with two companies where his duties included supervising in-bound shipments, human resources management and overseeing safety operations.

During his first term, Representative Cotter has consistently supported legislation that will help rebuild Michigan’s economy, eliminate bureaucratic red-tape and bring more fiscal responsibility and accountability to state government.

Representative Cotter serves as a member of the House Standing Committee on Judiciary, as well as a member of the Appropriations Committee. He also serves on four Appropriations Subcommittees- Judiciary (Chair), Higher Education (Vice-Chair), Supplementals (Vice-Chair) and Community Colleges.

Representative Cotter is a graduate of Shepherd High School and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Administration, as well as a Master's of Science in Administration, both from Central Michigan University. He also earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Cotter lives in Union Township, in Isabella County, with his wife Jennifer. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time in Michigan's outdoors. He also enjoys golfing, snowmobiling, hunting, boating and spending time with friends and family.
