Bio

Cody Thane Vasut is honored to serve as your State Representative for Matagorda and southern Brazoria Counties since January 2021. He is committed to listening carefully to his constituents, advocating fiercely for solutions to their concerns, and serving his community.

Cody is an 8th generation Texan and 5th generation lifelong resident of Brazoria County. He is a graduate of Angleton High School and graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA from Texas A&M University with a B.B.A. in Management. During his senior year at Texas A&M, Cody was elected to serve as Speaker of the Student Senate and was honored among the Who's Who of American Colleges and Universities. Cody went on to attain an M.S. in Management from Texas A&M University with a 4.0 GPA and graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian from the University of Houston Law Center with a Juris Doctorate.

He currently works as Of Counsel with BakerHostetler in downtown Houston, defending a variety of Fortune 500 companies in oil and gas, personal injury, employment, and theft of trade secret litigation in Brazoria County and across the country. He has tried several multi-million cases to the bench and juries over an nine+ year career.

In 2011, Cody saw a need for a college ministry for southern Brazoria County, so he founded Revive Young Adult Fellowship. Almost ten years later, Revive is a thriving 501(c)(3) non-profit ministry that has ministered to more than 500 young adults at Brazosport College and throughout the community in partnership with dozens of churches across the area.

In 2016, he was elected to Angleton City Council, where he served as a champion for conservative principles of pro-managed growth, limited government, and fiscal stewardship. Cody is noted for his transparency, deep inquiry into issues, and common-sense approach to solving problems, which The Brazosport Facts recognized in June 2019 when it applauded Cody and city staff for "emphasizing the importance of a well-run, properly funded animal control effort" to address the needs of the city's local animal shelter.

In 2017, Cody put his belief in pro-life values into practice when he joined the Board of Directors for the Pregnancy Help Center of Brazosport, supporting their efforts to minister to hundreds of new families and single mothers across southern Brazoria County and beyond. Cody is passionate about changing hearts, minds, and laws to end abortion and protect innocent children.

In 2018 and 2020, Cody served as a delegate to the State Convention for the Republican Party of Texas, voting for the legislative priorities of the party that he is committed to fighting for.

Cody does not sit idly by on the sidelines. When he sees a problem that needs fixing, he steps in to address it to the best of his ability. When he believes the Lord has called him to serve his community in a certain way, he follows through. He honors his commitments, stays true to his word, and delivers results. That is why he has stepped up to serve in the Texas House of Representatives.

Cody and his wife Kate live in Angleton. They have two daughters- Sparrow and Lily. They have three cats- Lola, Captain Jack, and Chloe. They attend Second Baptist Church in Angleton.
