Bio

On January 12, 2021, Representative Cook was sworn in for the first time as State Representative for Texas House District 96, which is comprised of the Cities of Mansfield, Kennedale, Crowley, and portions of Fort Worth, Arlington, and Burleson, and unincorporated portions of Tarrant County. Prior to being elected to the Texas House, David served as Mayor of Mansfield from May 2008 until January 2021. Rep. Cook has been assigned by Speaker Dade Phelan to serve on the Criminal Jurisprudence and the Juvenile Justice & Family Issues Committees.

Community Service Rep. Cook has been a long-time community volunteer in Mansfield, working with non-profits such as Mansfield Cares, Mansfield Mission Center, and Mansfield Feed the Kids Summer Program, all of which provide assistance to families in need. He also has been instrumental in establishing Mansfield Churches FOR the City, and the Mansfield Veteran's Day Parade and Salute, as well as working with Mansfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Mansfield Historical Society and Mansfield Independent School District (ISD) Strategic Planning Committee. He has previously volunteered with Mansfield Youth Basketball and the Mansfield Soccer Association. Rep. Cook currently serves on the Arlington Mansfield Area Salvation Army Advisory Council and YET Board.

Education & Professional Career The 49-year-old attorney is a graduate of Mansfield High School, Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, which is now known as Texas A&M University School of Law. Cook is a former Legislative Aide to the late State Senator Chris Harris. He was a Law Clerk and an Associate Attorney at Harris' law firm prior to partnering with Harris in January 2004 to form Harris Cook L.L.P., where David is now Managing Partner of the firm. David is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Rep. Cook has been recognized as the "Best Local Government Official" by the Mansfield News-Mirror, as one of the "40 Under 40" by the Fort Worth Business Press and named a Top Attorney by Fort Worth Texas Magazine.

David and his wife Tonya have four adult children, one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, and two grandchildren.
