Bio

Representative Barbara Sims was elected in November of 2006 and represents District 119 which

serves parts of Augusta/Richmond and Columbia Counties. Barbara serves on Appropriations,

Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism, Health and Human Services, Transportation, and

Vice Chair of the newly formed Small Business and Job Creation Committee. Barbara is also serving

in her fourth year as Deputy Whip for the House Republican Caucus.

Representative Sims previously served as a Commissioner for Augusta/Richmond County.

Activities within her community include-

• CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon

Member Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she has served as Historian and a member of

the Administrative and Finance Boards

Barbara attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, but came home to Georgia and

graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. Degree in Education.

She was married for 47 years to her late husband Fred who was a dentist with offices in Augusta

and Wadley. Her two sons Fred, Jr. and Craig, and daughters-in-law Tricia and Monica, have blessed

her with four wonderful grandchildren. Madeline, Franklin, Harper and Anna each add joy in her

life.
