Bio

DISTRICT

State Rep. Aric Nesbitt was first elected to the Michigan House in November 2010. He represents the 80th District, which includes all of Van Buren County, City of Otsego and the townships of Otsego and Watson in Allegan County.

EDUCATION

Nesbitt is a graduate of Lawton High School, attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College during high school, and worked his way through Hillsdale College, earning a bachelor's degree in economics. He also has a master's degree in international business.

PROFESSIONAL

Nesbitt most recently was the lead Republican staffer for the bipartisan Congressional Natural Gas Caucus, which is dedicated to more American jobs and less foreign oil, and the Congressional Steel Caucus, which is working to protect American manufacturing jobs. He also worked as a legislative director in the U.S. House of Representatives. Early in his career, Nesbitt worked for former State Representative and State Senator Tom George.

PERSONAL

Nesbitt grew up on a six-generation family dairy and grape farm south of Lawton in Porter Township and continues to reside in Porter Township. He is the son Gordon and Ann Nesbitt and the middle of five children. He is a member of the National Rifle Association, Van Buren County Farm Bureau, South Haven Steelheaders, Paw Paw and South Haven Chambers of Commerce, and Van Buren and Allegan County Republican Parties. He has served as a Republican precinct delegate, on the Van Buren County Executive Committee, and a delegate to the Michigan State Republican Convention. Nesbitt is also a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a nonpartisan individual membership organization of state legislators which favors federalism and limited government public policy solutions.
