Bio

Four-term Gloucester County Commissioner Heather Simmons is the longest-serving female Commissioner in Gloucester County history and the first woman to be elected Deputy Director to the board of commissioners.

As a commissioner, Simmons has a proven record of fiscal responsibility initiating a three-year freeze in government spending, slashing the tax rate, and bringing in substantial new business investments and thousands of new local jobs.

A strong proponent for small businesses, in 2021, she launched the 70-member Gloucester County Economic Recovery Collaborative focusing on post-pandemic economic recovery and resiliency. She also spearheaded the County's first small business revolving loan fund, resulting in $15 million in low-interest loans for more than 200 businesses.

Simmons has worked in public education for 32 years and is the assistant vice president for Strategic Initiatives at Rowan University. Before that, she owned her own communications firm.

Simmons has lived in Gloucester County since 1994. She earned a bachelor's degree in international relations and politics from Saint Joseph's University, where she was valedictorian of her class. She earned a master's degree in public relations from Rowan University.
