Bio

Representative Alan Harper has spent almost his entire career in public service working to better the communities in which he has lived and worked. His career path includes working in local government, public education, the banking industry and primarily in economic development.

He served almost a decade with the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority (TCIDA). During Representative Harper's tenure with TCIDA, he assisted in bringing numerous companies, among them, ZF Industries, Johnson Controls, Delphi, ICS, Recticel and the Mercedes-Benz expansion to Tuscaloosa County representing over 4,000 jobs and upwards of $500 million in capital investment.

In addition to that, Representative Harper serves or has served with the following civic groups- Member of the Board of the Economic Development Assoc. of Alabama, Tenn-Tom Waterway Development Council, Aliceville Rotary Club, DCH Regional Medical Center Institutional Review Commission, Aliceville Area Chamber of Commerce, Gordo Area Chamber of Commerce, Reform Chamber of Commerce, and Pickens County Cattlemen's Association.

He is a 1986 graduate of the University of Alabama and was selected as a 2001 Alumnus of the Year in the School of Communication.

He and his wife, Jean, make their home in Aliceville, Alabama and have two sons, Brant and Sam.
