BioDarryl W. Jordan was born in Macon, Georgia, the middle child of five. Agraduate of Southwest High School in Macon, Georgia and served as Vice President of his senior class and Drum Major of the school’s marching band. After graduation from Southwest, Darryl attended Grambling State University, and was a member of the famous Grambling State “Tiger” band. The band performed in many cities across the nation, including New York, Dallas, Washington, Los Angeles, and Honolulu, Hawaii. Upon transfer to Mercer University, he became a charter member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, serving as Vice President and Dean of Pledges. Darryl was awarded his bachelor’s degree from Mercer in 1976, and began a career in teaching with the Henry County school systems, where he has retired after teaching for 31 years. In November 2000, Darryl Jordan was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. He serves on the Banks and Banking Committee, Transportation and served as Vice Chairman of the Regulated Industries Committee. Darryl served as Chairman of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation from 2006-2007. Darryl Jordan is the recipient of the prestigious Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award, presented by the Henry County Community; both the Henry County Middle School Teacher Gold Cup and Teacher of the Year Award; the Community Leadership Award, presented by Henry County Middle School; the Community Support Award given by the Riverdale PTA; and honored by Lewis Academy Charter School for his dedication to education. Darryl served as Chairman of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation from 2006-2007.
