Bio

Senator Earl L. “Buddy” Carter is a Republican repre-senting Senate District 1. He represents Bryan County and portions of Chatham and Liberty counties.

Sen. Carter serves as Chairman of the Public Safety Com-mittee. He is also a member of the Appropriations, Health and Human Services and Higher Education committees.

Sen. Carter brings a wealth of government experience to his Senate position. He served the City of Pooler with plan-ning and zoning from 1989 to 1993 and with the city council from 1994 to 1995.

From1996 until 2004, Sen. Carter proudly served as mayor to the City of Pooler. He was first elected to the state legis-lature in 2005 to the House of Representatives. Sen. Carter was elected to the State Senate in November of 2009.

Sen. Carter is a native of Savannah and graduated from nearby Garden City’s Robert W. Groves High School in 1975. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Young Harris College in 1977 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 1980.

Sen. Carter and his wife, Amy, have three adult sons- Joel ( wife Megan), Barrett and Travis. He is a pharmacist with Carter’s Pharmacy, Inc. and is a Methodist.

Sen. Carter currently serves on the board of trustees for the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage Museum, Young Harris Col-lege and The Coastal Bank.
