BioIn the S.C. House of Representatives, Rep. Harry B. (Chip) Limehouse III has earned a reputation for taking a stand on the most pressing issues of the day such as economic development, the environment, and maintaining South Carolina's transportation infrastructure. In the S.C. House, Limehouse serves on the Ways & Means Committee and chairs the Subcommittee on Higher Education. He also is a board member of the S.C. Transportation Infrastructure Bank, which works to improve the state's transportation network. Limehouse was first elected to the S.C. General Assembly in 1995 and has served continuously since then. He proudly represents the people of District 110, which includes portions of Berkeley and Charleston counties. Born in Charleston, Limehouse is the son of Harry (Buck) Limehouse, an accomplished businessman and current S.C. Secretary of Transportation, and Frances (Fennell) Limehouse. He is the great-grandson of John F. Limehouse, for whom the Johns Island bridge is named. Limehouse is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Limehouse became interested in politics early in his life. As a youth, he provided legwork for local campaigns, passing out bumper stickers and posting signs. He also worked at the state and federal levels on the campaigns of Strom Thurmond and Ronald Regan. A commercial real estate broker by profession, Limehouse's business expertise and devotion to community have benefited many individuals and groups in South Carolina. For example, Limehouse currently serves as a board member for the Charleston County Aviation Authority. Over the years, he has been named Legislator of the Year by the National Solid Waste Management Association and has served on many government commissions such as the South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank, the Hunley Commission, the Joint Bond Review Commission's Special Property Tax Ad Hoc subcommittee and the Public Safety Coordinating Council. In 2007, for his service to the people of South Carolina and the Lowcountry, the Board of Trustees of the Medical University of South Carolina conferred upon Limehouse the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Limehouse is married to the former Susan Ramsay and is the proud father of their two children. He and his family reside in Charleston, where Limehouse is a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and involved in numerous civic organizations.
