Bio

State Representative Michele Henson is a 33 year resident of DeKalb County, and a 22 year member

of the Georgia General Assembly. Michele holds a Bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University

of Miami, Florida. First elected in 1990, Michele has been a constant presence in our state

government, and is currently the longest serving female member of the Georgia House of

Representatives.

In the Legislature, Michele is the Vice Chair of the DeKalb House Delegation, and is a member of the

Georgia General Assembly Women’s Caucus, the Working Families Caucus, and an associate

member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. She serves on the Appropriations, Health and

Human Services, Economic Development and Tourism, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship

Committees in the House of Representatives.

Michele is a fighter for affordable and accessible healthcare for all Georgians. Working in the dental

field, Michele came to realize the growing need for children’s dental coverage at the state level. In

the legislature, Michele was able to get children’s dental coverage added to the PeachCare program,

and keep it there despite destructive budget cuts to many state run programs.

Michele is the only Jewish female in the State House. She sits on the board of the Anti-Defamation

League and was instrumental in creating the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust, and in opening

of the Anne Frank Museum, located in Sandy Springs.

Michele has been active in her community since before she was elected as a Representative. Today,

Michele serves on the boards of Art Station, PRISM (Pride Rings in Stone Mountain), and the Anti-

Defamation League, and is active with other community groups such as the Stone Mountain

Women’s Club, the League of Women Voters, and the Memorial Drive Business Association. She is a

constant presence in the community, holding town hall meetings to discuss local issues such as cell

phone towers and zoning issues. Michele also believes in being a bridge between her constituents

and local elected officials, working hard in conjunction with County Commissioners, her CEO, and

other county elected officials to find solutions to the challenges her constituents are facing.

Representative Michele Henson is a passionate voice for DeKalb County, and truly lives by her

slogan of “doing the right things, for the right reasons”. Michele loves her community and looks

forward to working hard for a stronger DeKalb for many years to come
