Bio

Eric Johnson currently serves Dallas-based District 100 in the Texas House of Representatives. He was first elected in a special election in April 2010 and was re-elected to his position in November 2010. Today, he serves on two prominent committees- the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Higher Education. At the end of the 2011 legislative session, he was appointed to the special House and Senate Joint Oversight Committee on Higher Education Governance, Excellence, and Transparency. In his first legislative session, Representative Johnson submitted13 pieces of legislation, two of which were signed into law. Representative Johnson was the sole member 82nd Legislature chosen to participate in the 2011 Emerging Leaders Program by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation. He was also awarded the 2011 Achievement Award by the Public Policy and International Affairs Fellowship Program. In September 2011, the Texas Junior Chamber of Commerce named Representative Johnson one of the 2011 Five Outstanding Young Texans. In October 2011, the Dallas Regional Chamber bestowed upon him their first annual Courage in Public Service Award. Furthermore, Representative Johnson also serves on the Executive Committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. Before entering public office, Representative Johnson was an active supporter of Dallas' non-profit community. In the past, he has served as a both a tutor and mentor in the Dallas Independent School District, an experience which led him to launch the West Dallas C.A.M.P. (Community Ambassador Mentoring Program) in 2009. This successful program pairs West Dallas elementary school students with mentors in order to equip them with the skills necessary to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Today, he frequently speaks to many classes and at many "Career Day" events throughout District 100. Representative Johnson is a graduate of Harvard University, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in History. He then went on to earn a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University. In addition to his work in the legislature, as an attorney, Representative Johnson owns and operates the Law Offices of Eric L. Johnson, P.C. In this field he has a broad array of transactional legal experience ranging from public finance to commercial banking, corporate finance, and technology law. Representative Johnson lives with his wife, Nakita, in Forest Hills. They are members of the Lawrence and Marder Church of Christ in South Dallas. In his free time, he enjoys reading, sports, and spending time with Nakita and their two dogs, Nina and Bailey.
