Bio

Congressman John C. Fleming, M.D., a family physician from Minden, LA, was elected to Congress in December 2008. Fleming represents Louisiana’s Fourth Congressional District, which extends from Shreveport/Bossier to Kinder, LA. Fleming is focused on sound economic policy to grow and create jobs, reducing the tax burden for all Americans, sensible health care reforms, a sound energy policy and representing Northwest Louisiana's traditional values.

John Fleming's primary goal is to uphold America's constitution and he is working in Washington with the central purpose of representing the people as a servant leader.

Fleming is a member of two House Committees - Armed Services and Natural Resources.

Through these Committees, Fleming is able to focus on the biggest economic drivers for the 4th Congressional District. His work on the Armed Services Committee will allow for the future security of Barksdale Air Force Base, Ft. Polk/Joint Readiness Training Center, Camp Minden and other military installations, both in Northwest Louisiana and throughout the state. Serving on the Natural Resources committee positions him to support the maximization of the Haynesville Shale, which provides a source of alternative energy in natural gas and has created thousands of jobs for 4th District families.

John has been named a Defender of Liberty by the American Conservative Union, and is the author of House Resolution 615, legislation urging Members of Congress to participate in the same health care system they vote to impose on their constituents. House Resolution 615 has received the support of 3.8 million Americans and over 100 Members of Congress. John currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the GOP Doctors Caucus. The caucus is composed of 14 physicians who work to develop patient centered, patient-driven healthcare reforms focused on quality, access, affordability, portability, and choice.

John has been married to his wife Cindy for 32 years and they have four adult children and two grandchildren. His background as a Medical Officer in the United States Navy laid a path for his medical practice. His accomplished background as a family physician awarded him the Louisiana Family Doctor of the Year in 2007. Dr. Fleming is board certified in Family Medicine and still sees patients at his clinic in Minden, LA.

He has served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and School Department Director at First Baptist of Minden. His medical practice and several non-medical businesses provide over 500 jobs to Louisianans.
