Before launching her campaign for House District 28 she worked for New Era Colorado, a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to engaging youth in government and politics.

Rep. Pettersen is a fourth-generation Coloradan and has lived in Jefferson County nearly her entire life. She put herself through college and became the first in her family to graduate.

She has traveled and volunteered around the world in schools and orphanages with underprivileged children.
