Bio

Earl Ehrhart is the longest serving Republican in the Georgia House of Representatives, and represents District 36, which includes portions of Northwest Cobb County. Born in Miami, Florida, Earl has lived in Cobb since 1964. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Political Science in 1980. While there, he was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha the national political science honor society, as well as a member of Phi Kappa Fraternity.

Representative Earl Ehrhart resides in Powder Springs with his sons, Quentin and John. Earl was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1988. He is a member of the Appropriations Committee where he serves as Vice-Chairman of Higher Education, Banks and Banking, Higher Education, Rules, and State Institutions and Property Committees. Previously, Earl served as National Chairman of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a nationwide, bi-partisan group of legislators.

The National Federation of Independent Business has named Earl a "Guardian of Small Business", due to his years of work for businesses in Georgia. Recently, Earl received the "Champion of the Free Enterprise System Award" from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia. He also received awards from the Medical Association of Georgia, Kennesaw State University, The Twenty Second Air Force Reserve, and the Georgia Federation of Young Republican.

Representative Earl Ehrhart’s involvement with the state legislature has received national media attention. He has been quoted in such papers as the New York Times, Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Marietta Daily Journal and a feature article was written in The Economist. Earl has also appeared on CNN and is a frequent contributor to Hannity on Fox News Channel. In addition to Representative Ehrhart’s legislative work, he actively involved with many local civic organizations.

He and his family are members of McEachern United Methodist Church. Earl is a member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the Cobb County Youth Soccer Association, the Oregon Park Baseball Association and is a contributor to both the Cobb County Performing Arts and the Powder Springs Youth Association. He has served on the Powder Springs Downtown Development Association which led to the formation of Powder Springs Square. Earl is also a member of the West Cobb Rotary Club, The Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, The Honorary Commanders Association, is an Honorary Safety Fire Commissioner, and the District Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America representing the Covered Bridge District.
