Bio

A distinguished career in aviation combined with a sincere heart for community and

government service led Earnest G. Smith to run for a seat in the Georgia House of

Representatives. Equipped with a strong desire to raise the quality of life for citizens in

his district and the people of Georgia, he was elected in 2009.

Rep. Smith, who represents House District 122 in Richmond County, serves on three

committees- Banks and Banking, Children and Youth, and Energy, Utilities, and

Telecommunications. His legislative priorities include- ensuring that the anchor tenants

in the medical field remain in Augusta; preserving the sanctity of our most valuable

resource which is the Savannah River; and creating a climate for economic vibrancy as

we craft a master plan for the enrichment of nuclear energy at both Plant Vogtle in

Augusta and the Savannah River site in Aiken County, South Carolina.

Rep. Smith currently serves as Executive Liaison "Stakeholder" Strategist with

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Savannah River Site, Aiken, South Carolina. He has

extensive experience as a Certified "Project Manager, PMP."

Rep. Smith is a former United States Air Force Air Traffic Control Commander, Air Traffic

Controller and Air Traffic Control Liaison Coordinator. He is a former Accredited Aviation

Executive (AAE) and a member of the American Association of Aviation Executives

(AAAE). Rep. Smith is also a former “Hostage Negotiator” at the Savannah River Site

in Aiken, S.C. for Wackenhut Nuclear Security. He is Six Sigma Certified. As Aviation

Commissioner of the Augusta Regional Airport at Bush Field in Augusta, Georgia, he

coordinated and oversaw the construction of the first-ever Air Passenger Terminal in

Augusta’s history.

His outstanding community work includes serving as a member of the Board of Directors

for Christ Community Health Services in Augusta, Georgia. He is former president of the

Olde Town Neighborhood Association also in Augusta.

A graduate of Augusta State University's Hull School of Business with a BBA in

Marketing and minor in International Business and Finance, he also attended South

Carolina State University in Orangeburg. Rep. Smith is multi-lingual, fluent in Spanish

and Turkish.

A committed Christian, Rep. Smith praised the Lord through music for many years as a

member of the vocal group Wisdom (The Distinguished Men of Gospel). He hosts

"Community Matters," a radio talk show on WAAW – 94.7 “Shout” FM, a Christian radio

station in the Augusta-Aiken, CSRA regional market. He is an active member of Second

Baptist Church. Rep. Smith is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.,

Upsilon Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter.

Rep. Smith is married to Patricia Childs Smith, and they are the proud parents of one

daughter, Marki.
