Bio

Bill Cassidy is a physician, teacher, husband, and father, who serves the people of Louisiana's Sixth Congressional District in the House of Representatives.

As a doctor at Earl K. Long Hospital and LSU Medical Professor, Bill has spent his life in the service of his community, healing patients and training doctors to help others.

Bill helped open the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic to provide free medical care to the working uninsured. The Clinic provides low-income families free dental, medical, mental health and vision care through an innovative "virtual" approach that partners needy patients with doctors who provide care free of charge. He also established a school-based vaccination program that has treated over 36,000 Louisiana students, at no cost to parents.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Bill led a group of health care volunteers to convert an abandoned K-Mart building into an emergency health care facility, providing basic health care to hurricane evacuees.

Bill continues his public service mission in elected office, serving one term in the Louisiana Senate before his election to the House of Representatives in 2008. He is a citizen-legislator, who holds frequent town hall meetings and still sees patients at Earl K. Long hospital when Congress is out of session.

Bill met his wife, Laura Layden Cassidy, during his medical training. Laura is also a physician, and was formerly the Chief of Surgery at Earl K. Long Hospital. She later entered private practice treating breast cancer. Bill and Laura attend church at Chapel On The Campus. Their three children, Will (15), Meg (12), and Kate (8), attend schools in Baton Rouge.
