Bio

DISTRICT

State Rep. Thomas Hooker was first elected to the Michigan House in November 2010. He represents the 77th District, which includes Byron Township and the City of Wyoming.

EDUCATION

Hooker received his bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University and a master’s degree from Western Michigan University.

COMMITTEES

Hooker currently serves as the Majority Vice Chair of the Families, Children and Seniors Committee, and also is a member of the committees on Education; Health Policy; and Military and Veterans Affairs.

PROFESSIONAL

Hooker was a teacher in the Byron Center Public School system for 37 years, including courses in government, economics, health and physical education. He is a Red Cross instructor, taught swimming through the YMCA and trained teachers and staff members in CPR and first aid. Coaching was also a big part of Hooker’s life, including over 20 years as a high school football coach and 37 years as wrestling coach.

PERSONAL

Married to Pam for 40 years, they have two children, Troy and Tracy and four granddaughters. Hooker and his family spent a year in Peru teaching in a Christian mission school. He has been a member of the board of deacons at Heritage Baptist Church for 18 years and has served on the board of directors of a Christian Youth camp for 21 years and was summer director for nine. He and his wife Pam currently lead an at-risk teen bus ministry in their church. He was also a volunteer Little League baseball and youth football coach. He and his wife, Pam, also actively volunteer and support the Pregnancy Resource Center and Right to Life.
