Bio

Dr. J.D. Sheffield grew up on a family cotton farm in Loraine, Texas, a small town about 60 miles west of Abilene, where his parents still live today. He is one of three children, with a twin sister and an older sister. Dr. Sheffield is Medical Director at Coryell Medical Clinic in Gatesville, where he has resided and practiced since 1993. After finishing high school in Loraine, Dr. Sheffield attended Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas, where he served as Student Body Vice President. He received an academic scholarship to continue his education at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, where he served as Student Body President and graduated cum laude. Dr. Sheffield was accepted to medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, now the University of North Texas Health Science Center. After graduating, he completed an internship in family medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and served his family medicine residency in Pueblo, Colorado. For four years, he served as Chief of Staff at Coryell Memorial Hospital and, for eight years, he served on the hospital's Board of Directors. He serves again on the board today, in addition to serving as Medical Director at Coryell Medical Clinic. In 2010, the Gatesville Exchange Club named him Healthcare Professional of the Year. Dr. Sheffield also serves on the board of directors for the Levita Volunteer Fire Department. Dr. Sheffield and his wife, Gina, have been married since 1996. Together, they are active members in their community. They are avid supporters of the Boys and Girls Club, for which Dr. Sheffield has served on the Board of Directors. Gina has also chaired the Gatesville Relay for Life committee several years and served on its Board of Directors. She is currently the treasurer of the Gatesville Care Center. The Sheffields attend Coryell Community Church and reside west of Gatesville in the small town of Levita.
