Bio

A fifth-generation Montanan, Steve was raised in Bozeman and brings more than twenty-five years of private-sector business experience to Washington, D.C. as he serves the people of Montana as the state’s Congressman.

Steve’s parents grew up in Billings. After graduating from Billings Senior High, Steve’s dad enlisted in the Marines and later graduated from the University of Montana with a business degree. In 1964, Steve’s parents moved to Bozeman and started a home construction business.

After attending public schools in Bozeman, Steve worked his way through college at Montana State University – Bozeman and graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He spent thirteen years in a management role for Proctor & Gamble, and then returned to Bozeman in 1997 to work with his parents in the family’s construction business.

In 2000, Steve took on the role of VP of Customer Service for Right Now Technologies, a Bozeman-based start-up company that had around 100 employees at the time. The company grew rapidly and today is a publicly traded software company that employs more than 1,000 people—making it the largest commercial employer in Bozeman.

Steve has been married to his wife, Cindy, for 25 years. They live in Bozeman and are the parents to four children- David, Annie, Michael and Caroline. Steve and his family are actively involved in their church and community volunteer organizations and enjoy backpacking, hunting, skiing and fishing.
