Bio

Mike Pompeo is a Kansas businessman, decorated Army officer, husband and father who understands first-hand the challenges of balancing a family budget and operating a business. Mike and his wife Susan have always made time for public service, contributing their time and resources to church, local business organizations and community groups throughout south central Kansas. Elected November 2, 2010, Mike is prepared to join his colleagues of the 112th Congress in moving America in a direction that reduces government spending, eliminates irresponsible government mandates and rewards entrepreneurs and private sector success.

Mike attended the United States Military Academy, graduating first in his class at West Point. Following graduation, Mike served with distinction as a cavalry officer in the U.S. Army, leading troops as they patrolled the Iron Curtain before the fall of the Berlin wall.

After leaving the army, Mike earned his Law degree from Harvard Law School, where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Having spent many of the summers of his youth on the farm of his relatives in south central Kansas and with family still living in Wichita, Winfield, and Andover, it was only natural for Mike to return to Kansas to start a career in business.

Upon arriving in Wichita, Mike founded Thayer Aerospace with three partners. In less than a decade, Mike helped create 400 new local jobs. As Chief Executive Officer, Mike was responsible for meeting a large payroll, providing value to customers and addressing the challenge of growing jobs while complying with government regulations and burdensome taxes.

In 2006, Mike sold his interest in Thayer Aerospace and soon thereafter became President of Sentry International, an independent business that is engaged in the manufacture and sale of equipment used in oilfield and industrial applications around the globe.

Mike has dedicated his efforts to many civic causes in both Wichita and Kansas, serving on the board of the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Orpheum Theatre and the YMCA. He has also served as a trustee for the Flint Hills Center for Public Policy, a conservative think tank dedicated to the constitutional principles of limited government, individual freedom and personal responsibility.

Mike, Susan and their son Nick attend Eastminster Presbyterian Church where Mike serves as a Deacon and has taught the 5th Grade Sunday School Class. In addition to their church activity, Mike and Susan have been very active in the Republican Party from the grassroots to the national level. Mike has served the Party in roles as far ranging as Precinct Committeeman to his current role as National Committeeman
