BioState Representative Jay Hottinger returns to the Ohio House of Representatives for his second term, having previously served in the Ohio Legislature as a member of both the Ohio House and Ohio Senate. He represents the 71st House District, which encompasses portions of Licking County.Prior to his current term in the Ohio House, Representative Hottinger worked for the people of the 77th House District as well as the 31st Senate District. A life-long resident of Newark, he served on Newark City Council and was selected by his peers to serve as Newark’s President Pro Tempore. He remains active in several community organizations, including his assistance in forming the Police Athletic League (PAL) of Licking County. Representative Hottinger has been recognized many times for his work in the Legislature. He is the recipient of numerous honors, such as the Outstanding Young Man of Licking County, the Kenneth J. Martin Award for excellence in contributions to political science, the Watchdog of the Treasury Award, Friend of Ohio’s Taxpayer, Guardian of Small Business, Friend of Community Colleges and the Ohio Society of CPAs Outstanding Legislator Award. Representative Hottinger attended Newark High School and graduated from Capital University, where he majored in political science and public administration. Though he is extremely active in both the Legislature and his local community, Representative Hottinger still places priority in his family. He and his wife Cheri reside in Newark and are the proud parents of their daughters Savannah, Heather and Jayme. In order to best fulfill this role, a representative responds to constituent concerns and works to provide solutions through legislative action. In order to best serve their constituents, a state representative attends meetings of their local civic, social and business groups in addition to responding to mail, email and telephone correspondence from constituents in their district.
