Bio

Representative Smith represents House District 133, which includes portions of Harris, Muscogee and Troup counties. Vance resides in Harris County and received his Bachelor Degree from Columbus State University.

Vance owns and operates Vance Smith Contracting and Consulting, which provides business development services and consulting to Pond & Co., a Georgia based engineering company. Previously, Vance was President and CEO of Vance Smith Construction Co. that was founded in 1974.

Vance served as the Commissioner of Georgia Department of Transportation from 2009- 2011 where he managed a $2.1 billion, 4700-employee transportation agency that delivered a $1 billion construction program in 2011 and $1.6 billion in 2010.

He previously served Harris, Muscogee and Troup Counties in the State House of Representatives. Prior to that, he served on the Harris County Commission and as Commission Chairman. In his time in public service, Vance earned a reputation for listening to those he served, doing the right thing, and protecting taxpayers.

Vance has been married to his wife, Michele, a former educator, for 44 years. They are the parents of 3 children, Bo, Suzanne, and Kip and have 5 grandchildren with a 6th on the way.

Vance and Michele attend St. Paul United Methodist Church.
