Bio

James Wilson grew up on a wheat and cattle farm nine miles east of Kiowa, Kan. He attended a two-room country school in Corwin, Kan., through the 8th grade. Before his election to Colorado’s 69th General Assembly, Rep. Wilson spent 40 years as an educator, coach, athletic director, counselor, principal and superintendent of schools on the Western Slope, Front Range and the Central Mountains of Colorado.

Rep. Wilson is an active member of the Rotary Club of Salida, and he co-founded The R.E.A.D. Group, which provides resources and information to rural school districts. Rep. Wilson created the Demont Award to recognize small school administrators who improved their schools. He currently serves as the American Association of School Administrators’ National Consultant for Rural and Small Schools.

Rep. Wilson has also served as president of the Kansas School Counselors Association, the Kansas City Public Television Consortium, the Rotary Club of Salida, the Colorado School Superintendents organization and the Colorado Association of School Executives.

Rep. Wilson is an Elder in his church and teaches adult Bible classes. He and his wife, Kristi, have been married 31 years and have 4 daughters, a son-in-law and 4 grandchildren.
