Bio

Born and raised in Flint, Congressman Dan Kildee is a lifelong Michigan resident who in just his second term in Congress has become a powerful force for Michigan.

Congressman Kildee currently serves on the Financial Services Committee, in addition to being a Regional Whip. In his first six months in office, he secured $100 million in federal funds to help remove blighted and abandoned homes throughout Michigan, including in Flint and Saginaw. In Congress, he's also fought to protect afterschool programs and create summer jobs projects for youth to help reduce violence and provide opportunity.

In just his second term in Congress, Congressman Kildee has continued to take on a variety of leadership positions, including- Senior Whip, where Congressman Kildee is responsible for ensuring that other Members of Congress in the Democratic Caucus are voting in favor of legislation that helps working families; Member of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, where Congressman Kildee is responsible for managing day-to-day messaging and strategy regarding middle class priorities on the House floor; Member of the President's Export Council, where Congressman Kildee was appointed by former Speaker of the House John Boehner to advise the President on America's trade and manufacturing policies.

Before being elected to Congress, he co-founded and served as the president of The Center for Community Progress, a national non-profit organization, where he served as one of the nation's leading voices on urban land reform and revitalization. He founded Michigan's first land bank - the Genesee County Land Bank - which is responsible for over $100 million in redevelopment in the city of Flint. The Genesee County Land Bank later served as a model for almost 100 other land banks across the nation.

Previously, he also served as the Genesee County Treasurer, on the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, and on the Flint Board of Education. Additionally, he worked for eight years at the Whaley Children's Center, a shelter and rehabilitation facility in Flint for children who have experienced trauma and abuse.

Congressman Kildee resides in Flint with his wife, Jennifer. They currently have two children in college, Kenneth at the University of Michigan-Flint and Katy at Central Michigan University. Dan's oldest son Ryan and his wife Ginger are the parents of their first two grandchildren, Caitlin and Colin.
