Bio

Brad Wenstrup was elected to represent the people of Ohio’s Second Congressional District in the 2012 election. As a podiatrist, Army Reserve officer, Iraq War veteran, and small business owner, Brad is committed to addressing the issues facing America and the people of Southwest Ohio.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Brad graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1980. He went on to earn a medical degree as a podiatric surgeon and later established a private practice in Cincinnati and has treated patients for more than 24 years. His medical experience reinforced for him the importance of keeping government out of the doctor-patient relationship. He also saw first hand how difficult it is for small business owners to succeed when they are stifled by high taxes and bureaucratic red tape.

In 1998, Wenstrup joined the U.S. Army Reserve, accepting an officer’s commission and serving in the Medical Service Corps. In 2005, he served a year of active duty in Iraq where he was Chief of Surgery with the 344th Combat Support Hospital. Brad was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for his service in Iraq, and today he continues his service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve.

Brad entered public service because he is committed to bringing jobs and economic development to Southwest Ohio. He believes in policies that reduce government spending, taxes and regulations to allow small businesses to invest, grow, and hire here at home. He continues to actively support the Global War on Terror and our military men and women. He was an early and vigorous opponent of ObamaCare and supports market-based health care reforms that will result in more affordable and accessible health care for all.

For the 113th Congress, Brad was selected to serve on the House Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Veteran’s Affairs.

Being involved in the community has always been important to Brad. For more than 14 years, he volunteered with the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters organization. Additionally, he serves as a Board Member of Boys Hope/ Girls Hope, a member of the Cincinnati Rotary, and the Founder and President of Thank America First Foundation. Brad and his wife Monica reside in Cincinnati, Ohio.
