Marcos would also spend three years living in Lima, Perú, where he completed his fourth and fifth grade studies while attending Santa Tersesita.

As a young man, Marcos learned the value of hard work while assisting his father in the family business, commercial painting. After his parents’ divorce during his sophomore year of high school, Marcos moved back to Arroyo, Puerto Rico with his younger sister and his mother. Here he completed a year of High School at Carmen Bozello de Huyke High School, but soon thereafter, returned to New York to live with his father.

Marcos became an important figure in the upbringing of his younger sister. The difficult experiences involved with his family’s separation and relocations reinforced in Marcos a strong bond with his family, as well as a heightened responsibility to be a good role model and source of strength and inspiration to his siblings. His time living in Peru, Puerto Rico and New York allowed Marcos to broaden his views about the living conditions of people in other parts of the world.

In the Fall of 1996, Marcos enrolled in John Jay College to pursue a degree in Government Studies. In 2003, he participated in the New York State Assembly Internship Program, where he was assigned to work with Assemblyman Rubén Díaz, Jr. During this time, Marcos experienced the ins and outs of State Government, developing relationships with many elected officials, and also developing strong bonds with communities in the 85th Assembly District.

In 2004, after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from John Jay College, Marcos accepted a full-time position as the Assistant to New York State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz, Sr. Marcos served as the personal assistant for Senator Díaz. Marcos’ experience included handling and managing many areas of the office’s work which included scheduling, event coordinating, legislative matters, correspondence, and traveling to Albany for session days as well as working on constituent matters in the district office.

Over the years, Marcos has been directly involved in drafting and introducing legislative initiatives, coordinating grants and sponsorship opportunities for hundreds of community organizations and non-for-profits, and working closely with community advocates and leaders on local issues.

Marcos A. Crespo represents the 85th Assembly District, which includes- Soundview, Bronx River, Hunts Point, Clason Point and Harding Park.
