Rep. Primavera is in some sense a member of the legislative Class of 2013, but she’s no freshman. This is her third term representing House District 33, having been elected in 2006, 2008 and 2012.

In the first part of her legislative career she was chosen by the bipartisan Legislative Audit Committee to be the committee’s vice chair, and the next year, its chair. She sponsored legislation to create the Colorado Autism Commission, and she received the Colorado Lawmaker Award from Colorado Women’s Chamber and the Denver Women’s Commission. She was also honored by the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network and the Brain Injury Association of Colorado.

In 2010, Rep. Primavera lost her bid for re-election by 314 votes, or less than one percent. She spent her sabbatical serving on the 17th Judicial District’s Victim & Witness Assistance and Law Enforcement board, and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure board.

Rep. Primavera has worked in public service and the nonprofit sector for three decades. She was a director in the titles and registrations division at the Department of Revenue, and later worked in emissions and constituent relations, and received the Governor’s Peak Performance Award for Citizen Satisfaction for providing outstanding customer service.

She also maintains a dog grooming business that she started when she was a teenager.

A Colorado native, Rep. Primavera graduated from Regis University in Denver with a B.S. in psychology, and she has a master’s in vocational rehabilitation counseling from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

Rep. Primavera has two daughters – Kelsey, a registered nurse, and Darcie, a lawyer. Dianne raised them as a single parent, while simultaneously battling (and beating) cancer. During that time, she also lost her job and subsequently her health insurance. The experience motivated her to come to the legislature to fight for disadvantaged Coloradans.

She lives in Broomfield with her three Welsh terriers.
