Bio

Senator John Wilkinson of Toccoa joined the Georgia State Senate in 2011 during a special election. He repre-sents Senate District 50, which includes Habersham, Rabun, Towns, Stephens, Banks, Franklin, and portions of Hall and Jackson counties.

Senator Wilkinson is a Republican and serves as the Chair-man of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee and Vice chairman of the Education and Youth Committee. He is also a member of the Appropriations and Government Oversight committees.

In addition, he is a member of Georgia Agricultural Educa-tion Hall of Fame and has been recognized as an outstand-ing member of the National Association of Supervisors of Agricultural Education in 2006. The University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Science honored Senator Wilkinson with an Award of Excellence in 2009. Recently, he was named “Policy Maker of the Year” by the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education in 2012.

Senator Wilkinson’s government experience extends to his previous career as a program manager at Georgia Depart-ment of Education, overseeing the state’s agricultural edu-cation programs. He also worked as an Executive Secretary for Georgia’s Future Farmers of America Association.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Mas-ters in Education at The University of Georgia. He is happi-ly married to Debbie Wilkinson, and they have two adult children and five grandchildren. The Wilkinsons attend Tates Creek Baptist Church, where Senator Wilkinson is also a Deacon.
