Mayo, who represents House District 84 (portions of DeKalb county), was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2008, during one of the most exciting election cycles in U. S. history. After a successful first term, Mayo was re-elected by an overwhelming majority of votes cast. His committee assignments include Education, Insurance, and Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment.

Rahn Mayo is a committed community servant. As board chairman of the Cedar Grove High School Career Technology Advisory Council he has the opportunity to support innovative academic initiatives in education, a top priority on his legislative agenda. His leadership has enhanced the quality of education for all the students in the career technology program and has broadened the community support for the school. He initiated a Youth Law Development Program that provided field trips, guest speakers and a variety of learning experiences in the judicial system.

Mayo is a frequent guest speaker for local high schools and youth groups, and as an active participant and mentor continuous to inspire and motivate the students to achieve excellence. He is a strong supporter of the Future Business Leaders of America program, which enables students to participate and achieve honors in regional and state level competitions.

Due to a firm commitment to protecting Georgia’s limited water supply, in 2012, Mayo introduced HR 1963 to establish Water Conservation Week in Georgia. The purpose of HR 1963 is to raise public awareness concerning Georgia’s current water issues, and encourage a positive behavioral change in individual consumption. HR 1963 also encouraged school systems to participate and learn important facts about water conservation and the benefits.

As a board member for Arthink DeKalb he supports the organization in their efforts to promote arts and culture in DeKalb County. Mayo is a former mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. He serves as an advisory board member for the DeKalb County Youth Detention Center

On the grassroots level Mayo is active in the Brook Glen Neighborhood Association. He helped organize the “Adopt a Road” program in his community, joining other citizens in picking up litter in conjunction with a county program.

In 2010, Rahn was recognized as an emerging young leader in America, and was selected by The American Council of Young Political Leaders, to serve as a delegate in Australia.

Rahn credits his father, renowned actor and drama professor, Whitman “Grady” Mayo, for his early introduction, exposure, and appreciation of the arts. He understands the importance of the arts in education and in extra curricular activities as a contributing factor to academic excellence and a deterrent to negative behavior among our youth.

Mayo began his professional career in radio as an advertising sales executive for several Atlanta stations, and as co-host of radio programs airing on WCLK and WAOK. He is a residential real estate professional and small business owner since 2001.

Mayo is a member of the Ray of Hope Christian Church, an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. A graduate of Howard University, he resides in Decatur, Georgia.
