Bio

Throughout his life, Terry Landry has sought opportunities to serve his community, his state and his country.

Terry is a native of New Iberia and the retired former head of the Louisiana State Police. He attended Henderson High School in New Iberia and graduated from New Iberia Senior High. He is married to the former Sharon Broussard, and together they are the parents of three children- Shauna, 33; Terry, 30; and Tory, 24.

He joined the United States Army after high school. He is a Viet Nam Veteran. After serving his country, Terry went to work for the New Iberia Police Department. While working as a police officer, he was recruited to work for Shell Oil.

After five years at Shell, Terry was accepted into the Louisiana State Police Academy in 1977. For 27 years, Terry worked his way up the ranks of the Louisiana State Police, starting as a Uniformed Trooper, Road Supervisor, Detective, and Sergeant with the West District Office in Lafayette. He served as commander of the Crime Lab, headed the Investigative Support Section, the Gaming Enforcement Division and Commander of Protective Services. Terry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in April 1997. At that rank, he served as Chief of Staff, Deputy Superintendent of Support and Deputy Superintendent of Patrol.

He was appointed Superintendent of the Louisiana State Police by Governor Mike Foster in 2000. While serving the Louisiana State Police, Colonel Landry led the Louisiana State Police’ participation in the Baton Rouge area (Derrick Todd Lee), the recovery of the Space Shuttle Discovery crash, the first Super Bowl held after the September 11 attack on the U.S., and also statewide events such as the Sugar Bowl and the Bayou Classic.

In addition to serving the Louisiana community through his law enforcement duties, Colonel Landry also served his country in the United States Army and is a Vietnam Veteran. He has received many awards and honors during his years of law enforcement service from his community and state. He was named the Lafayette Kiwanis’ Young Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, and has received numerous commendations for exemplary performance of duty.

Since his retirement from Louisiana State Police, he has been employed as Director of Security for the New Orleans International Airport and interim Chief of Police at Southern University and Baton Rouge Community College.

Terry has always been active in the community, working as a volunteer to assist children in need around the state. He has assisted the Louisiana State Police foundation with the creation of Camp-Win-a-Friend, which brings 300 young boys and girls to camp in Holden, LA each year, and is currently working with Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Lafayette to raise funds to educate our youth and keep the school moving forward.

Terry Landry will be a great Representative for House District 96 in Baton Rouge.
