Bio

Walter T. Mosley was elected on November 6, 2012 to represent the neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, and parts of Crown Heights and Bedford Stuyvesant in the New York State Assembly.

In January 2013, Assemblyman Mosley cast his first career vote to pass the NY Safe Act - which enacted the nation’s toughest gun laws in New York State – and was assigned membership on the Codes, Housing, Cities, Banks, and Corporations, Authorities, and Commissions Committees.

Locally, Assemblyman Mosley has collaborated with several education, and housing advocacy groups to work on issues impacting seniors, students and working families. He hopes to utilize these grassroots experiences in sponsoring legislation that is effective, transformative and truly reflective of the needs of his constituency.

Assemblyman Mosley has introduced legislation to fight public employer discrimination of formerly incarcerated individuals, provide legal representation for persons facing foreclosure proceedings, and require mortgage lenders and brokers to inform potential homeowners of their Mortgage Bill of Rights. He also continues to advocate for key progressive reforms such as increasing the minimum wage and the NYS DREAM Act.

Prior to his election, Assemblyman Mosley served as Special Advisor and External Relations Specialist for the New York State Senate Minority Conference and Senior Advisor to the Assembly’s Deputy Speaker.

Assemblyman Mosley received his bachelor’s degree in Criminology, with a minor in African Studies and American History, from Pennsylvania State University at University Park, graduating with honors for his exceptional academic performance. In 1998, he then received his law degree from the historic Howard University in Washington D.C.

Born and raised in Clinton Hill, Assemblyman Mosley is committed to passionate and substantive representation of the communities of central Brooklyn in the legislature.
