BioState Senator Lou Gentile (D-Steubenville) is currently serving his first term in the Ohio Senate, representing Southeastern Ohio in the 30th Senate District. Prior to his appointment to the Senate, Senator Gentile served in the Ohio House of Representatives. As the Senator for the 30th district Senator Gentile represents Columbiana, Tuscarawas, Belmont, Harrison and Jefferson Counties. The son of a school teacher and a social worker, Senator Gentile was raised in Steubenville by parents who taught him early about the importance of giving back to his community. A graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School and West Virginia University, Senator Gentile has spent his adult life in public service working to improve the lives of the people in the Ohio Valley. Prior to being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, Senator Gentile served under former Governor Ted Strickland as Assistant Director in the Governor’s Office of Appalachia, where he led efforts to expand infrastructure and save and create jobs. During his tenure in the Governor’s Office of Appalachia Senator Gentile was responsible for securing funding for a wide range of economic development projects in Eastern Ohio. In addition to delivering funding for communities throughout Appalachia Ohio, Senator Gentile served as an advocate for the people of Appalachia, promoting workforce development programs, the expansion of broadband service and advanced energy projects throughout the region.Senator Gentile’s experience in federal and state government has given him a unique perspective on the issues facing the people in Ohio’s 30th Senate District, as well as a deep understanding of the legislative process that will allow him to effectively serve his constituents in the Ohio General Assembly. Senator Gentile’s top priorities in the General Assembly are focusing on economic recovery, strengthening the education system and improving the quality of life for working families. He is the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee and the Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources Committee. He is also a member of the Energy and Public Utilities Committee, and the Financial Institutions Committee.
