Bio

State Representative Luis Arroyo was born in Corozal, Puerto Rico and moved to Chicago at the age of thirteen. He attended Pulaski Elementary School and Tuley High School (now Roberto Clemente High School) in Chicago.

Arroyo entered the workforce at a young age, and learned about the sacrifices necessary to support a family. Those experiences shaped his understanding of the concerns of working families and help to drive his legislative agenda.

Improving schools, creating more good-paying jobs with benefits, and expanding access to quality, affordable health care are among Arroyos top legislative priorities. His overarching goal is to work with residents and other elected officials to enhance the quality of life in the 3rd Districts diverse and vibrant neighborhoods. To better represent his constituents and make that they are consulted on his legislative agenda, Arroyo intends to use community advisory committees to discuss current issues and seek residents feedback.

Arroyo is the former owner of Arroyos Restaurant and a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. He is a Board Member of the McCormick-Tribune YMCA, past Puerto Rican Parade Committee Vice-Treasurer, a Poetas Baseball League Sponsor (Humboldt Park), and a past Member of the Fullerton Merchants Association.

Arroyo is married (Maribel) with three adult children (Luis Jr., Denise & Alberto), and two grandchildren (Jocelyn & Jaylen).
