Bio

My name is Tom Davis and it’s an honor to serve as your State Senator. I was sworn in on January 14, 2009 after winning election in November 2008, and my pledge to you is to always do my best to advance your best interests. For much of my life, I’ve been working hard to make Beaufort – and the State of South Carolina – a more competitive, prosperous, cleaner and safer place for all of us to live, work and raise families.

You can read more about where I’m coming from politically over on my issues page, but here’s a little bit about me personally - First of all, I consider myself incredibly blessed to be married to my wife Reid, and to share with her the joy of raising our three daughters, Elizabeth, 14, Grace, 7, and Claire, 3. As a twenty-three year resident of Beaufort County, this is my home, and it’s one of the most special places on the planet – which is something that impacts every decision I make. I’ve been fortunate enough to work for the last two decades as an attorney with Harvey & Battey in Beaufort, and for the last decade-and-a-half, I’ve been involved in local and state government. In addition to serving as Chief of Staff to Gov. Mark Sanford in Columbia, I also served as co-chief of staff on both of his successful statewide campaigns. The governor also appointed me as a member of the S.C. State Ports Authority board. While working in Gov. Sanford’s office, one of the most fulfilling parts of my job was leading the fight to pass South Carolina’s charter school reform bill within the legislature. I was also proud to lead our state’s successful negotiations to build a deep water port with Georgia on our side of the Savannah River in Jasper County. Locally, I’ve served on the Beaufort County Planning Board, the Lowcountry Council of Governments, the Historic Beaufort Foundation and the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority. As for my educational background, I graduated magna cum laude from Furman University in 1982 and received my Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland three years later. I’m also an avid baseball fan and enjoy spending time outdoors with my wife and three daughters.
