Byron Cook was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2002 and is honored to represent the hard-working citizens of House District 8 which currently includes Anderson, Freestone, Limestone and Navarro counties. During the 80th Legislative Session, in 2007, Representative Cook was selected to serve as chair of the House Committee on Civil Practices. This committee dealt with legislation that directly impacts the Texas Civil Justice Code and Texans' judicial rights, as well as other complex legal topics. During that time, Representative Cook also served as a member on the House Committee on State Affairs and the Sunset Advisory Commission. In 2009, Representative Cook was designated to serve as chair of the House Committee on Environmental Regulation -- a committee which focused on a wide-range of environmental issues, including the regulation of air, land and water pollution. He was also named as the vice-chair of the Local and Consent Calendars and a member of the committees on State Affairs and Calendars. Before the start of the 82nd Legislature, Representative Cook was re-appointed to serve as a member of the Sunset Advisory Commission, a 12-member body responsible for the periodic review of the functionality and efficiency of state agencies. Representative Cook became chairman of the House Committee on State Affairs during the 82nd Legislative Session. The committee has a diverse and broad jurisdiction over a myriad of critical issues to the state, including the protection of unborn life, utility regulation, and the management of state agencies, immigration and the administration of state government. Representative Cook also continues to serve as a member of the House Committee on Calendars. Representative Cook is a businessman and rancher.
