Bio

John Bell is serving his fourth term representing the citizens of House District 10, which includes parts of Greene, Johnston, and Wayne Counties. A resident of Wayne County, Representative Bell was raised in Mount Olive where his parents, Ricky and Cindy Bell still reside. Representative Bell attended North Duplin Junior-Senior High School. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, he started his career with the Boys Scouts of America serving Duplin and Sampson Counties. An Eagle Scout from the Tuscarora Council, he returned home to serve that council and then moved to the Gulf Coast Council in Panama City, Florida. The financial industry brought him back to Wayne County where he is currently the Manager of Sales and Business Development for North Carolina Community Federal Credit Union in Goldsboro. Using his experience in the world of finance, Representative Bell serves on the Finance Committee with the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Southeast Chapter of North Carolina Credit Unions. Currently Representative Bell serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County and is the Charter Representative for Boy Scout Troop 200. In addition, he is the Alumni Chairman for the North Carolina Delta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, is active in the Goldsboro Rotary Club and Mount Olive Free Mason Lodge #208 AF & AM. At Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Representative Bell volunteers as an instructor for the First Term Airman Center program. FTAC is designed to aid all first-duty-stationed airmen with their transition from a systematic and regimented environment into a hands-on employment training and skills gained from technical school. Formerly, Representative Bell also volunteered for his community by serving on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Wayne County and the Mount Olive Chamber of Commerce. He graduated from Leadership Wayne County, a program of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce designed to create a corps of leaders dedicated to the betterment of the community through service. Representative Bell served on nine committees in his freshman term- Agriculture (Vice-Chairman); Appropriations; Banking; Government; Homeland Security, Military, and Veterans Affairs; Judiciary; the Joint Legislative Economic Development and Global Engagement Oversight Committee; and the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Information Technology. He was also the Chairman of the Committee on Banking Law Amendments. In his second term, Representative Bell was chosen by Speaker Tim Moore to serve as chairman of the powerful Regulatory Reform Committee for the 2015-2016 Session. He also served on the Agriculture Committee, the Banking Committee, the Committee on Commerce and Job Development, the Finance Committee, the Committee on Homeland Security, Military, and Veterans Affairs, the Judiciary Committee, and the Public Utilities Committee. Representative Bell was also been appointed by the Speaker to serve as the new chairman of the North Carolina Sportsmen's Caucus, a bipartisan group of House and Senate leaders dedicated to to protecting and promoting sportsmen's issues within the General Assembly and before the United States Congress. Representative Bell was honored with the "2014 Rising Star" award by the North Carolina House Legislative Partners and this year, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as House Majority Whip and then as House Majority Leader for the 2015-2016 session. Based on his strong conservative principles and effectiveness representing the people of the 10th District, Representative Bell ran unopposed in 2014 and 2016. In 2010, Representative Bell married Kelli Gurley. The Bells have a beautiful baby daughter, Averi, and a dog named Max. They attend Rosewood First Baptist Church.
