Bio

Tim Moffitt was raised in Henderson County and is a 1982 graduate of West Henderson High School. His family roots run deep in the mountains, with familiar names such as Laughter, Corn and Willis in his family tree.

A successful, self-made businessman, he manages the day-to-day operations of Moffitt International, an executive search and management consulting firm. For the last 34 years, Tim has assembled executive management teams and overseen a wide array of high-profile projects for governments, Fortune 500 companies, and charitable organizations all over the world. Tim also recently opened a boutique real estate firm, Moffitt Properties, that caters to sellers and buyers in western North Carolina.

Tim previously served two terms in the North Carolina General Assembly, where he quickly distinguished himself as a leader in the areas of government oversight, private property rights, regulatory reform, and tax policy. He was a chief architect of North Carolina's Tax Reform efforts, which has since spurred the state's economy and produced record budget surpluses. And as the chairman of the House Regulatory Reform Committee, Tim work helped to remove thousands of burdensome business regulations and his legacy of reform still echoes today.

All told, Tim was the primary sponsor of 118 bills during his tenure, 45 of which are now state law and passed with bipartisan support. For these and his many other efforts, he was ranked among his colleagues as the 2013-2014 #1 Most Effective Legislator in North Carolina by the Raleigh News & Observer.

Should Tim be fortunate enough to succeed Rep. Chuck McGrady, who announced his retirement last year, he will apply his working knowledge of the legislative process to represent the people of Henderson County, particularly in the areas of economic development and criminal justice reform.

Tim's prior service in the state house will count towards his seniority, so should he win the seat, Henderson County and Western North Carolina would continue to have a seat at the table when it comes to the big decisions; his experience with the machinery of government and the players involved puts him in a unique position- he can really hit the ground running.

As for the man he hopes to succeed, Moffitt praised McGrady. "Each of Chuck's colleagues in the legislature will miss his friendship, leadership, and counsel" he said. "I've admired how Chuck has worked across the aisle to forge relationships which have benefited not only the people of Henderson County, but also the entire state" continued Moffitt. "Chuck is a model public servant - I'll do my best to honor that legacy."
