Bio

Senator Lamoureux is President Pro Tempore for the 89th General Assembly representing Senate District 16, which is comprised of Newton and Pope counties and parts of Boone, Carroll and Van Buren counties. He joined the Arkansas Senate by special election on December 16, 2009. He is serving his second term.

Currently in the 89th General Assembly, he holds membership on the Senate Revenue and Tax, Senate Insurance and Commerce, Senate Efficiency, Arkansas Legislative Council, Joint Budget Committee (JBC), Legislative Joint Auditing and Legislative Facilities committees. He is an ex officio on JBC-Claims, JBC-Peer Review, JBC-Personnel and JBC-Special Language.

During the 88th General Assembly, Senator Lamoureux served as the Senate Minority Whip, chairman of both the Arkansas Legislative Council and Joint Budget Personnel Sub-Committees and vice chairman of Senate Revenue and Taxation. Additionally, he served on the following legislative committees- Senate City, County and Local Affairs; Joint Energy; Senate Efficiency; Joint Budget Committee; Arkansas Legislative Council (ALC); ALC- Charitable, Penal and Correctional Institutions; ALC-Administrative Rules and Regulations; Legislative Facilities; ALC-Litigation Reports Oversight Subcommittee; JBC-/Forestry Subcommittee and Boys State. In 2011, he was recognized by the Arkansas Dental Association for his tireless effort and support of the organization and the citizens of Arkansas in the Regular Session.

During the 87th General Assembly, Senator Lamoureux served on the Senate Revenue and Tax, Senate Efficiency, and Senate Transportation, Technology and Legislative Affairs committees. He came to the Senate with a wealth of legislative experience. From 2003-2008 he served in the Arkansas House of Representatives. As State Representative for District 68, he served as House Minority Leader of the 86th General Assembly and served on various committees including House Education; House Aging, Children and Youth; Joint Performance Review; and Legislative Joint Auditing.

Senator Lamoureux works with legislators from across the nation as a member of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), where he serves as a member of the board of directors and on the Natural Resources Task Force. In 2011, he was appointed to the Energy Council’s Center for Legislative Energy and Environmental Research (CLEER) Board of Directors.

Civically, Senator Lamoureux has served on several boards, including the board of directors for Choices Pregnancy Resource Center, Friendship Services and Counseling Associates. He is a member of the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Yell County Wildlife Federation. He has received numerous awards for his professional and political service, including Friend of Arkansas Tech University, the Advocates for Justice Award from the Prosecuting Attorneys Association and Legislator of the Year from the Arkansas Realtors Association.

A native of Springfield, Missouri, Senator Lamoureux moved to Dover, Arkansas, in 1981 at age 5. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Arkansas Tech University and a Juris Doctorate from the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Prior to entering private practice with Michael Lamoureux, P.A., in Russellville, he served as a Yell County public defender and a Logan County attorney ad litem.

Senator Lamoureux is a member of Dover Baptist Church. He and his wife, the former Kristi Story, have one son, Luke, and one daughter, Ellie.
