Bio

State Senator Tom Courtney is currently serving his fourth term in the Iowa Senate. He represents Des Moines and Louisa counties, and much of Muscatine County.

Senator Courtney is chair of the Justice Systems Budget Subcommittee and vice-chair of the Judiciary Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Rules & Administration and State Government committees.

A member of UAW Local 807, Tom is retired from Case/New Holland after 30 years of service. He has served on the Iowa Workforce Development Board, the Southeast Iowa Health Center Board, and the Burlington School Board. He is a six-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Tom and his wife, Nancy, live in Burlington. Between them, they have five children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
