Bio

Robert Rita was elected State Representative of the 28th District in November 2002. His district includes Chicago's 9th and 34th Wards and the suburban communities of Blue Island, Calumet Park, Crestwood, Midlothian, Oak Forest, Orland Park, Palos Park and Robbins.

As a State Representative, Rita has made economic redevelopment, equitable school funding and increased health care availability his top priorities.

Prior to his election as a State Representative, Rita served as a Calumet Township Trustee. He was appointed Chairman of the Finance Committee and Vice Chairman of the Road and Bridge Committee.

In November 1998, fellow township trustees across the state elected him Director of the Illinois Trustee Division. As director, he focused on improving educational opportunities for trustees throughout the state to help them become more effective public servants. His efforts included the promotion of home study courses, seminars and establishing a township networking information line.

In April 2001, Rita was elected to his second term as Calumet Township Trustee without any opposition.

A union member since 1989, Rita is a former member of Teamsters Local #726 and is currently a member of Operating Engineers Local #150. Rita admires and shares the goals of organized labor.

Robert is the father of Ashley, who is eighteen years old.
