Bio

Senator Jon Woods represents Senate District 7, which is comprised of part of Washington County. For the 89th General Assembly he is chairman of Legislative Facilities and holds membership on the following committees- Senate Judiciary; Senate Insurance and Commerce; Arkansas Legislative Council; Joint Performance Review; Joint Public Retirement and Social Security Programs; Arkansas State Game and Fish Commission Oversight Committee, and Rural Fire Departments Study Committee. He is serving his first term.

In 2006, Woods was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives, where he served three consecutive terms. During his tenure, Woods supported and passed legislation creating the Newborn Umbilical Cord Blood Bank (Act 695 of 2007); amending the state constitution to ensure the right to hunt, fish, trap and harvest wildlife (SJR 3 of 2009); and establishing the Office of Health Information Technology (Act 891 of 2011).

Senator Woods has worked with the Arkansas World Trade Center since 2007. He is a member of Springdale Rotary and Springdale Kiwanis. Senator Woods has been recognized for his public service-

„h 2012 Invest In Life Award given by the Arkansas Cord Blood Bank with UAMS,

„h 2009 Paul Harris Fellow Award,

„h 2009 Legislator Appreciation Award ¡V Arkansas Municipal League, and

„h Eagle Scout (1995).

Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he has lived in Arkansas since 1979. He holds two associate degrees from Northwest Arkansas Community College and a bachelor¡¦s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In his spare time, Senator Woods follows Razorback sports and military history and is an accomplished musician.
