Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs) will be given the opportunity to improve their own speech-language therapy techniques and practices by actively participating in training provided through diverse training modules (i.e. face-to-face, video, online). The training will address one or more areas of communication (language, fluency, voice, articulation).

Class Notes

Two Meeting Dates: 10-20-17 and 2-23-18

Session One (10-20-17)

  1. Focus Area One: “The Integration of Google Drive and other Technology to Benefit School-Based SLPs”, Presenter: Mr. Blake Johns, OKRESA/SCGLRS Instructional Technology Specialist. Mr. Johns will provide an introduction to Google Drive and how use of this technology may help SLPs expand ways to store files and create forms, documents, surveys. Also, SLPs will learn how they can use Google Drive to communicate and share resources as an SLP group. Information and training in Google Drive will be practiced as portions will be integrated into the focus area two for the day (see below).

  2. Focus Area Two: “Information and Strategies for SLPs Targeting Phonological Awareness and the Literacy Connection”, Presenter: Dr. Delia Garrett. As SLPs in school-based practice continue to expand their scope of practice under phonology into literacy, this expansion may help answer a common question: “What can I do as an SLP to integrate, change, and add to my traditional therapy any strategies which will impact my student’s performance in the general curriculum?” Dr. Garrett will help make that phonology and literacy connection as she provides her expertise in the area of literacy, especially targeting early readers (K-2). Research indicates a strong relationship between the development of early phonological awareness and reading success. SLPs will engage in a learning experience full of practical ideas that are easily implemented in classroom and therapy practices.

Session Two (2-23-18)

The focus of this session will be determined by the consortium members during session one.
