The purpose of the Ok RESA Mathematics Endorsement Program is to prepare participants who can function as knowledgeable professionals who possess both a theoretical and practical knowledge base in the K-5 mathematics curriculum and to prepare them to utilize effective strategies and methods for teaching the Georgia Standards of Excellence for K-5 mathematics.
Goals for candidates completing the K-5 Mathematics Endorsement Program are a) extend and refine knowledge and skills in using exemplary pedagogical practices; b) incorporate collaboration, critical thinking, hands-on exploration, manipulative use, problem-based inquiry, technology utilization, and activity implementation addressing various learning styles and multiple intelligences into mathematics instruction; c) select and use a variety of formative and summative assessment techniques to monitor student progress, gauge students’ mathematical understanding, and interpret school-based progress; d) solve problems using multiple strategies, manipulatives, and technological tools; interpret solutions; and determine reasonableness of answers and efficiency of methods; and e) understand an use the major concepts of number and operations, algebra, geometry and measurement, and data analysis and probability in mathematics for grades K – 5.
