PSC is delivering workshops this fall for all school districts to provide information and resources they will need as districts transition from the old certificate renewal rule to the new rule that goes into effect on July 1, 2017. The workshop presenters are Sallie Barrett and David Hill, both of whom led the state task force that developed recommendations resulting in the new rule.
Each participant will receive a packet of all handouts, worksheets, and the PowerPoint, as well as a flash drive containing a variety of video clips ranging from 4-20 minutes in length that examine professional learning from various angles. The videos show various Georgia educators engaged in discussions about the rule change and professional learning communities.
The content of the workshop is designed to address these workshop goals:
Workshop participants will 1. Review those parts of the renewal rule that impact the professional learning of currently employed Georgai educators,
2. Develop an understanding of the shift from professional learning based on seat time and collection of PLUs to a professional learning system focused on improvement of teaching and learning,
3. Engage in discussions and activities that give an overview of the concepts of professional learning community, job-embedded learning, and linking professional learning to student performance,
4. Examine the role of the district office in supporting school level implementation of professional learning communities and the accountability system that will be put in place to assure full implementation of the new system, and
5. Give input regarding what future support is needed to ensure successful implementation of changes in professional learning.
